About the Calendar
An Ancient World Through a Modern Calendar
Journey through the calendar year and discover the mythological figures, ancient traditions and symbolic connections that give each month its own story.
Names with a story
The months we use every day were named for gods, rulers and rituals. The calendar is a map back into myth.
Nature and the seasons
Planting, harvest, the turning of light and dark: each god in the year belongs to a moment in nature’s cycle.
Rome and Greece
Roman gods and their Greek counterparts side by side, so every figure is met under both of their names.
Holidays and traditions
From moons and festivals to the holidays of today, the book connects ancient practice with the year we live now.
