March
Mars
The Roman god of war
March is named for Mars, whom the Romans saw as the divine ancestor of their people. He was the father of Romulus and Remus, the twins raised by a she-wolf who were said to have founded Rome.
His Greek counterpart Ares was the more impulsive of the two, yet Mars/Ares was also a god of agriculture and fertility, bound closely to the land, the army and the people of Rome. Among the gods he was considered second only to Jupiter/Zeus.
