Saturn
Harvest, abundance, celebration and time
September closes summer and opens the way to fall and winter: a time for reflection and the final gathering of crops. Its god is Saturn, who stood for abundance, harvest, time and wealth, qualities he shared with Demeter, goddess of agriculture and fertility.
Demeter was the mother of Persephone, who became the wife of Pluto; the ancients told these intertwined myths to explain the changing seasons. Saturn and September were once linked with celebrations, sharing and gift-giving, customs that helped shape the holiday season we know today.
